Scottish street trials artist and YouTube sensation Danny MacAskill will attend The London Bike Show this Saturday. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet one of the most remarkable mountain bike personalities of our time during his signing session at the Conti stand on Saturday January 19th between 3:00pm and 5:00pm.

The famous Scotsman from the Isle of Skye will be at the Continental booth for a two-hour signing session. So, make sure to find the time to meet the mountain bike trials legend. Since the beginning of his career Danny has plenty of outstanding achievements: broken YouTube records, “Laureus Sports Award” Nominee 2010, 3rd place at National Geographic’s “Adventurer of the Year Award” 2011. In 2012 he carried the Olympic torch and rode with Sir Chris Hoy for the inauguration of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Conti’s newest products for 2013 will be on display on their stand – LB830. The two-wheel department at Continental’s Korbach factory in Germany has been working full-time on developing the highest quality bicycle tyres for their 2013 product range. Their tyres are tested under the toughest conditions and used by renowned athletes in the hardest competitions such as the London 2012 Olympic Games and Tour de France.

We know that many of you look at the New Year as a good time to get started with or improve upon your fitness. It's also a great time to start planning your 2013 season and challenge yourself with a goal event.

Setting Your Goals & Resolutions for 2013

We know that many of you look at the New Year as a good time to get started with or improve upon your fitness. It’s also a great time to start planning your 2013 season and challenge yourself with a goal event.

1… Goals should be realistic. If you have been having trouble finishing rides or races with the group, setting a goal to place in the top five of a race you have never finished with the group would probably be too aggressive at this point in time. There are goals for every level of rider – you just have think about them.

2. Goals should be measurable. Goals are clear and quantifiable. When you set goals, there should be some way you will be able to measure your success. You should be able to say: “I did ‘x’, so I achieved my goal.”

3. Goals should be challenging. Your goals should stretch you and push you to greater heights. Goal setting is intended to help you improve. If your goals aren’t challenging, you won’t see many gains.

4. Your goals should be YOURS. One of the most common mistakes I see a lot of riders make is that of acquiring some else’s goals. Your goals have to motivate you. Your goals need to help you get on your bike when it is cold and wet; when it’s 5:30 in the morning; when you get off track due to sickness or injury. If you start working towards someone else’s goal, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Typical Goals and Coaches replies
1. Question: I want to be the next Bradley Wiggins! I’m a 4th Cat rider at the moment.
Answer: Let’s look at shorter term goals first such as winning a race and gaining your 3rd cat licence, 2nd cat, 1st cat, Elite then Pro!
2. Question: I want to gain a Gold Standard in my 1st 100 mile Sportive; I’ve never cycled more than 40 miles!
Answer: Let’s get you finishing your 1st 100 mile event with a realistic goal time and then in your following Sportives work up from Bronze to Silver and then Gold.
3. Question: I want to lose 10kg because I’m overweight
Answer: An achievable goal but let’s plan to lose 1kg per week over 3 MThs so we have mini goals to reach that main goal and leave room for the odd week where you don’t lose any weight.

Koolstof can help you with setting your goals for FREE. Just sign up for any monthly 1-1 plan option and we’ll set them with you.

Stay on top of your fitness goals with a Koolstof training plan

To help get you in shape for your goal event we have launched six new training plans. Each one will get you in great shape and keep you motivated all the way to the start line.

Last week we were at ExCeL for a morning of testing ahead of the UK’s first indoor criterium, the IG London Nocturne which will be taking place alongside The London Bike Show in January.

We were sampling a treatment, a mixture of fine sand and chemicals which can be added to surfaces to create friction and in our case make high speed cornering much safer for riders.

The treatment offered exactly what we were looking for and will be added to the heavy breaking areas and corners of the circuit. We’re very happy with the surface in ExCeL which will form the rest of the track and the foundations for some fast and exciting racing.

Plenty of riders have already registered for the racing and you can still sign up – click here for more information. It promises to be a great 4 days of racing for both participants and spectators.

We’re are delighted to announce a partnership between The London Bike Show and the Nocturne Series, which will see a version of the IG London Nocturne taking place at the 2013 show.

Integrating the IG London Nocturne into the show will add a new dimension. Fast paced, competitive racing that will provide a compelling experience for spectators, participants and exhibitors.

The concept for the Nocturne events was developed by Rapha Condor and FACE Partnership in 2007, with the inaugural Smithfield Nocturne. The event attracted over 5,000 visitors and was awarded for its innovation by winning a Visit London Sports Tourism Award. The race has returned to Smithfield Market each year since, and during 2009 and 2010 also visited Edinburgh, Manchester and Blackpool.

Since 2011 only the London event has been hosted and has been sponsored by IG Markets to become the IG London Nocturne. The 2012 race took place at Smithfield Market and attracted over 12,000 spectators.

The Nocturne format generates a fantastic atmosphere around a creative race programme, which incorporates an Elite Criterium that features British and international professional cyclists. The race programme will run over the four days of the show, and will include a Media/ Industry race, a Corporate City race, the Elite Criterium, a Women’s Elite Criterium and Youth racing. The Folding Bike and Penny Farthing races, which have become synonymous of the Nocturne Series over the year’s will also be taking place at the event.
