The concept for the Nocturne events was developed by Rapha Condor and FACE Partnership in 2007, with the inaugural Smithfield Nocturne. The event attracted over 5,000 visitors and was awarded for its innovation by winning a Visit London Sports Tourism Award. The race has returned to Smithfield Market each year since, and during 2009 and 2010 also visited Edinburgh, Manchester and Blackpool.
In June 2012 over 12,000 spectators witnessed the IG London Nocturne at Smithfield Market. A stunning display from Team Sky lead to Ian Stannard winning the Saint-Gobain Men’s Elite Criterium.
